Health Wagon Collaborates with Harry Howe, Emory & Henry University, Dr. Mark Handy and Other Community Members to Host Free “Move Mountains Medical Mission M7” Community Health Event April 17–18 in Washington County, Va.

(Abingdon, Va.) – Residents of Washington County, Va. and surrounding counties and communities are invited to attend a free, two-day MOVE MOUNTAINS MEDICAL MISSION M7 event on Friday and Saturday, April 17–18, 2026, at the Washington County 4-H Center (25236 Hillman Highway, Abingdon, VA). Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. each day, and services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Friday is 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m.- noon.
Hosted by The Health Wagon, William Mark Handy, MD, Emory & Henry University, Mel Leaman Clinic and numerous regional partners, this community-focused event will offer a wide range of free medical, vision, and hearing services to help improve access to essential healthcare.
“Access to healthcare should never be determined by geography or income,” said Dr. Teresa Tyson, DNP FNP-BC FAANP President and CEO of The Health Wagon. “Washington County’s Move Mountains Medical Mission is about meeting people where they are and ensuring individuals and families in our rural communities receive the care they need with dignity and compassion.”
“This event represents the power of collaboration in addressing unmet healthcare needs,” said Physician Assistant Harry Howe, director of the Mel Leaman Free Clinic in Marion, Va. “By bringing together medical professionals, volunteers, and community partners, we are able to deliver critical services that can truly change and save lives.”
Free Medical Services Include:
- • Comprehensive medical exams
- • Bone density testing
- • Cholesterol screenings
- • PAP tests
- • Sports physicals
- • Colon cancer screening kits
- • X-rays and limited lab services
- • EKGs and pulmonary function tests (PFTs)
- • Mental health screenings
- • Hearing screenings
- • Facial skin analysis
- • Echocardiograms (ECHO)
- • Chest X-ray scanning and analysis
- • Joint injections
- • Osteopathic manipulation for pain
Mammogram Information:
Mammograms will be offered Thursday ONLY, April 16, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment only. Mammograms will take place at The Ballad Health Coach which will be stationed at the Moose Lodge (15605 Porterfield Highway, Abingdon, Va.). To schedule a mammogram, please call 276-328-8850 in advance.
Vision & Hearing Services:
- • Vision screenings and eye exams provided by Miles for Smiles Vision Van (by appointment ONLY)
- • Prescription glasses (may be mailed after the event)
- • Free reading glasses
- • Hearing screenings and audiology exams provided by ETSU Audiology
“As healthcare providers, we see firsthand the barriers many individuals face in accessing care,” said Paula Hill-Collins, DNP, FNP-BC, PCPNP-BC, FAANP, Vice President and Clinical Director of The Health Wagon. “This event allows us to remove those barriers and provide preventive services that can make a lasting difference in our patients’ lives.”
Additional Event Details:
Participants planning to receive lab work are asked to fast after midnight prior to testing. Services are completely free and designed to serve uninsured and underserved populations in the region.

This large-scale health outreach effort is made possible through partnerships with organizations including The Health Wagon, Mel Leaman Free Clinic, Anthem HealthKeepers, Emory & Henry School of Health Sciences, Ballad Health, Radford University, Virginia Tech, Feeding Southwest Virginia, LabCorp, Moose Lodge, Rad-Aid and many other local civic groups and sponsors.
