Health Wagon’s annual veterinary outreach was another remarkable success, with nearly 800 pets receiving care during the two-day free drive-thru event at the Wise County Fairgrounds.
Families from across the region arrived with beloved companions of every shape and size—many bringing multiple pets, with some households caring for nine or more animals. The overwhelming turnout reflected the continued need for affordable veterinary services in rural Appalachia.
Thanks to the dedication of 40+ volunteer veterinarians, veterinary technicians, students, community organizations, and local partners, families were able to access free veterinary exams, vaccinations, medications, microchips, flea and tick prevention, pet food, educational resources, and spay/neuter vouchers. Additional services, including nail trims and basic grooming, helped ensure pets left healthier and more comfortable.
The event reinforced an important reality for many families in rural Appalachia—access to affordable veterinary care remains a significant need.
Final event statistics and additional highlights will be shared as they become available.
