Just in Time for Veterans Day: Rotary Club of Johnson City Teams with The Health Wagon to Deliver Wheelchair to a Veteran in Need
(Johnson City, Tenn.) – The Rotary Club of Johnson City teamed with The Health Wagon of Wise, Va. to turn a generous local donation into a life-changing gift for a veteran in need.
When Todd Pryor of Portland, OR. reached out to the Johnson City Rotary Club after the passing of his father in Johnson City, Tenn., he hoped to find a meaningful home for his father’s wheelchair along and several other personal hygiene and healthcare items. The Rotary Club of Johnson City gladly accepted Pryor’s generous donation and passed it directly to the Health Wagon of Wise, Virginia, ensuring the items reached those who needed them most.
The Health Wagon, known for its compassionate medical outreach in Southwest Virginia, presented the wheelchair to US Navy veteran, Tim Duvall, from Coeburn, Virginia, during
their recent Veterans Dental Care Event held in honor of Veterans Day. Duvall, 64, who is originally from Spring Hill, Tenn., lost his leg due to diabetes.
Along with the wheelchair, the veteran also received a handmade quilt crafted by the Mennonite Ladies Group, adding a heartfelt touch to the gift.
“This is a wonderful example of how community generosity and Rotary connections can come together to make a real difference,” said Cyrus Fees, President of the Johnson City Rotary Club. “We are grateful to everyone who played a part in helping honor a veteran through this act of kindness.”
“When we received the gift, we knew exactly where it would go,” said Health Wagon CEO Dr. Teresa Tyson, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, FAANP. “We have so many deserving veterans who served our country and, in many cases, paid severe health tolls on our behalf. We were so glad we could honor one such veteran in need.”
Through simple acts like these, the Rotary Club of Johnson City continues to uphold Rotary’s mission of Service Above Self, connecting resources and goodwill across communities and state lines.
