Move Mountains Medical Mission “M7” Returns to Wise County July 10-11 for 27th Year 

Veterinary Services Available at Shelcy Mullins, Sr. Fairgrounds 

(Wise, Va.) — The Health Wagon will host the 27th annual Move Mountains Medical Mission (M7) July 10-11, 2026, at The Health Wagon campus, 5626 Patriot Drive in Wise, Va. Registration opens both days at 7 a.m. Veterinary services begin at 8 a.m. at the Shelcy Mullins, Sr. Fairgrounds. 

The event brings together volunteer medical professionals, universities, community organizations, and healthcare partners from across the region and nation to provide FREE healthcare services to uninsured, underinsured, unemployed, and underserved individuals and families. 

All services are free of charge. No pets are permitted at The Health Wagon campus except service animals. This is a tobacco-free event. 

Event Information 

Location: The Health Wagon, 5626 Patriot Drive, Wise, VA 24293 Dates: Friday, July 10 – Saturday, July 11, 2026 Registration: Opens at 7 a.m. both days 

Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis unless appointments are required for specialty and select services. 

Medical Services 

Healthcare professionals will provide comprehensive adult and pediatric medical care, including physical examinations, preventive screenings, diagnostics, and specialty consultations. 

Available services include: 

  • Specialist consultations 
  • Family medicine 
  • Internal medicine 
  • Pediatrics 
  • Psychiatry and mental health services 
  • Orthopedics and orthopedic hand surgery 
  • Plastic surgery 
  • Dermatology 
  • Rheumatology (via UVA Telehealth) 
  • Endocrinology (via UVA Telehealth) 
  • Neonatology for infants ages 0-1 
  • Neuroradiology consultations 
  • Sports physicals 
  • Substance use disorder counseling 
  • Pastoral care 

Diagnostic and Preventive Services 

Diagnostic testing and preventive screenings available include: 

  • EKGs using SmartHeart technology 
  • Diabetes screening and management 
  • Foot care services 
  • Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) testing 
  • Bone density testing 
  • Blood work and routine laboratory testing 
  • Pulmonary function testing (PFTs) 
  • Chest X-rays and additional imaging 
  • Echocardiograms (appointment required) 
  • Ultrasounds (appointment required) 
  • Advanced liver testing 
  • Cancer screenings 
  • Colon cancer FIT testing kits for uninsured patients 
  • Trevor’s Team heart screening 

Patients receiving laboratory testing are encouraged to avoid eating or drinking after midnight except water or black coffee and continue taking prescribed medications. 

Women’s Health Services 

Women’s healthcare services will include: 

  • Pap smears 
  • Clinical breast exams 
  • Mammograms provided by Ballad Health on July 10 only 
  • Colposcopy for abnormal Pap smear follow-up (appointment required) 

Appointments are recommended for mammograms and women’s specialty services. 

Lung Clinic 

The Health Wagon Medical Director and pulmonologist Dr. Joseph Smiddy, MD, will lead the Lung Clinic, providing: 

  • Pulmonary function testing 
  • Chest X-rays 
  • COPD and asthma evaluations 
  • Smoking cessation support 

Individuals experiencing shortness of breath, chronic cough, wheezing, or other respiratory concerns are encouraged to attend. 

Dental Services 

The Owens and Hill Dental Health Clinic will provide: 

  • Dental cleanings 
  • Fillings 
  • Extractions 
  • Oral cancer screenings 

Appointments are preferred, with walk-ins accepted as time allows. Uninsured patients will receive priority. For dental appointments, call 276-221-6055. 

Vision Services 

Vision care services will include: 

  • Comprehensive eye exams 
  • Glaucoma testing 
  • Diabetic retinopathy screenings 
  • Prescription glasses 
  • Reading glasses 

Prescription glasses will be mailed following the event. Walk-ins as time allows. 

Hearing and Sensory Services 

Available hearing-related services include: 

  • Hearing screenings 
  • Hearing aid assistance 

Limited financial assistance may be available for qualifying individuals. 

Medication and Insurance Assistance 

St. Mary’s Faith Pharmacy staff will provide: 

  • Prescription assistance 
  • Pharmacy Connect enrollment 

Participants seeking Medicaid enrollment should bring proof of income and Social Security numbers for household members.

Veterinary Clinic 

A separate drive through veterinary clinic will operate July 10-11 at the Shelcy Mullins, Sr. Fairgrounds beginning at 8 a.m. Services include: 

  • Vaccinations 
  • Wellness exams and sick care 
  • Limited medications 
  • Pet supplies limited 
  • Referrals for spay and neuter services

History 

In 1999, Dr. Teresa Tyson, DNP, and Sister Bernie Kenny recognized the growing need for medical, dental, and vision care for medically underserved residents of Southwest Virginia and launched the first RAM Wise clinic, now known as Move Mountains Medical Mission. 

Now entering its 27th year, the mission has provided lifesaving care to tens of thousands of patients through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and healthcare professionals.
