In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Health Wagon has been on the front lines, providing critical healthcare and support to the Appalachian community.
Deployed to Damascus and Haysi
Our mobile vans, equipped with SpaceX Starlink satellite technology, along with our crisis response team, have been deployed to the flood-affected areas of Damascus and Haysi, VA.
Medical and Crisis Services
Our team, including Drs. Teresa Tyson, DNP, Joe Smiddy, MD, Mark Handy, MD, Paula Hill-Collins, DNP, went door-to-door to find patients in need. They provided essential services such as Pulmonary Function Tests, free chest X-rays, and vaccinations (Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Flu, and COVID).
We’ve also coordinated healthcare and pharmacy services for those who lost medications, and assisted with eyeglasses and oxygen support.
Emergency Supplies Distribution
We distributed antibacterial spray, clothing, toiletries, and other essential items to help residents recover.
Mental Health Support
Dr. Ben Carey, MD provided mental health services, offering trauma support to help individuals cope with the disaster’s emotional toll.
Community Recovery
Thanks to partnerships with CVS Pharmacy, Ballard Urgent Care, and Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief, and other area churches, we’re ensuring holistic recovery for the region.
Together, We’ll Stand Strong and Rebuild.
