The Health Wagon and UVA Health Partner with TytoCare to Provide Telehealth Devices to Uninsured Families in Wise, Va.
(Wise, Va.) – The Health Wagon in Wise, Va., and UVA Health in Charlottesville, Va., have joined forces to improve healthcare access for uninsured families through the distribution of TytoCare devices. This innovative initiative seeks to bridge gaps in rural healthcare by equipping families with advanced, user-friendly medical technology that delivers clinical-grade diagnostic capabilities from the comfort of their homes.
TytoCare, a virtual healthcare company, has developed the TytoHome device as part of their Home Smart Clinic solution. The FDA-cleared device empowers patients to perform remote physical exams with a doctor, including heart and lung sounds, throat and ear exams, and skin and temperature checks. These easy-to-use devices connect to healthcare providers via the internet, enabling real-time remote evaluations and reducing the need for in-person visits. The collaboration between the Health Wagon and UVA Health ensures that uninsured families have access to this cutting-edge technology, helping to address barriers to traditional healthcare services and improve health outcomes in underserved communities.
“This program is groundbreaking for families in our region,” said Dr. Teresa Tyson, DNP, CEO of the Health Wagon. “It not only brings high-quality diagnostic tools into homes but also ensures that patients receive timely care without the need to travel long distances, which is often a challenge in rural communities.”
“We are thrilled to be working with organizations like the Health Wagon and UVA Health, to help provide better access to care for families in rural areas of the country,” said Dedi Gilad, CEO and Cofounder of TytoCare. “By leveraging easy-to-use technology to connect with clinicians from anywhere, patients can save hours of travel and wait time and still have access to high-quality care directly from their homes.”
Dr. Paula Hill Collins, DNP, a dually certified family and pediatric nurse practitioner, and Vice President of the Health Wagon, emphasized the importance of this technology for families with small children. “The TytoCare device is a game-changer for families with young kids,” Dr. Collins remarked. “It allows parents to monitor their children’s health closely and receive expert guidance from healthcare providers without leaving their homes. This is particularly valuable for families in rural areas who may otherwise face significant obstacles in accessing pediatric care.”
This initiative underscores the transformative potential of telemedicine in addressing healthcare disparities. By leveraging TytoCare’s state-of-the-art technology and UVA Health’s telehealth expertise, the Health Wagon aims to provide a lifeline to uninsured families in Southwest Virginia, offering them access to timely and effective healthcare services.
The partnership between the Health Wagon, UVA Health, and TytoCare demonstrates a shared commitment to reducing healthcare inequities and empowering communities through technology. The requirement of internet access enables seamless communication between patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring that even the most remote families can benefit from this program.
